Luma difference
Our journey ironically started with our quest to find out what the buzz behind CBD was all about. After 14 months of researching, emailing, and speaking with CBD farms, testing labs, and manufacturers, we were left unsettled. For example, we would read an article about CBD online, then speak to a testing lab and hear something totally contradicting what we had just read. This happened quite often for the first few months of research.
We started to narrow down our query methods to exclusively include information backed by studies that were both, published and peer-reviewed. Of course, this led to a problem of having a relatively small amount of sources to pull from but having reliable information was our main priority. Here is a list of things you should know about CBD based on published and peer-reviewed studies.
NOT ALL STUDIES ARE CONTROLLED STUDIES
One study found that a single dose of 600 milligrams (mg) of CBD decreased anxiety in people about to give a public speech. This study also concluded that people who took 25 mg daily of CBD for a month, noticed reduced anxiety and had a “better quality of sleep” (The Permanente Journal, 2019). Although this study was published and peer-reviewed, experts like Dr. Jordan Tishler, president of the Association of Cannabis Specialists states, “these were not controlled trials, so they must be viewed skeptically.”
A controlled study as defined by www.cancer.gov is “An experiment of clinical trial that includes a comparison (control) group.” Having a control group is important in being able to exclude variables that may contaminate the results of the trial or test. An example is in some trials/studies, one group will take the drug being tested, while a separate group will take a placebo. This would help eliminate the possibility of the presence of psychosomatic effects.
This is just one example of why it’s important to not only find published and peer reviewed studies, but to also go through the study and see how it was conducted. Keep in mind that this is just one of many studies about CBD as it relates to anxiety and sleep. More research is being done everyday and our mission is to keep our product on the side of caution by using all natural essential oils and pure CBD. No added chemicals or supplements, vegan safe, lab tested, US grown hemp.
